Opportunity Snapshot
If you are a "born" technical professional -- from an early age you have loved figuring out how things work -- this position offers you the opportunity to showcase your broad technical savvy and expand your skills across diverse areas, including network installations, server upgrades, system configurations, and more. You'll broaden your experience with clients in a variety of industries and of all different sizes, from local ventures to national corporations. This role involves very little overnight travel, a pleasant change of pace if you are used to spending a good deal of time on the road for customer engagements.
You will provide proactive and extensible solutions to ensure stable network infrastructures for our customers and our own business, including hands-on server and network configuration and support. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have solid experience supporting clients with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex TCP/IP voice and data networks including Cisco routers, switches and firewalls. You'll need certification in and current active experience with Cisco voice technologies (including UC500, CME and CallManager), as well as administrative knowledge of Microsoft server technologies such as Active Directory, Exchange, and SQL. Just as important will be outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to convey confidence to customers.
Founded in Ann Arbor in 1988, Wiltec Technologies, Inc. has grown to become Southeast Michigan's premier technology system integrator. We offer a high degree of stability, with a strong commitment to the community and solid financial performance.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
One of more of the following certifications: MCSE, CCIS, CCDP, CCDA, CCVP, CCNA, and/or PMP.
Current active engagement with Cisco VoIP and networking projects, ideally including both installation and service.
Solid recent experience in network management and troubleshooting including servers and systems.
A demonstrated ability to configure, troubleshoot, and repair networks including Microsoft and TCP/IP networking components such as Cisco routers and switches.
Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP including firewall configuration and maintenance.
Proven experience with optical and T1 networks as well as a strong understanding of Ethernet, including security.
Expertise in and experience with MOST of the following technologies:
Server platforms for Microsoft (Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, File and Print) and Linux (SAMBA, Email, DNS, File and Print).
Infrastructure requirements for deploying real time communications on an IP network (QoS, ToS, CoS, DiffServ, VLANs, Jitter, Latency, Bandwidth, PoE, VoIP Codecs, Call Admission Control, etc)
Cisco products including routing, switching and unified communications configurations.
Firewall, intrusion prevention and detection, VPN and SSL.
Experience servicing multiple types of customers in various industries.
The ability to manage and work independently and responsibly on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
What's in It for You
Steady stream of fresh challenges -- if you're the person we're looking for, you enjoy taking on a new technology, tool or piece of hardware and figuring out how it works. You'll have plenty of opportunity in this role: in addition to voice and data networks, we provide surveillance, security, nurse call and audio video services, among others, and you'll provide IS support in those areas.
Opportunity to shine -- because we are a smaller company, you'll interact with our senior leaders on a regular basis, and your successes will be highly visible. At the same time, this environment is not for everybody. You'll need to share our entrepreneurial spirit and bring a strong sense of accountability and autonomy.
Professional development -- staying current on the latest technologies is essential to our success and pretty much every day brings something new to learn. You'll provide solutions across a wide variety of industries, from retail to healthcare to web-based businesses, and companies ranging from two employees to thousands.
Great work environment -- what makes our company stand out? Teamwork! Like any successful team we're focused on a common goal: growing our business the "old-fashion way". That means a commitment from each and every Wiltec employee to always put our customers first. We firmly believe that this philosophy is pivotal to our growth . . . and our customers agree because they are our best source for new business with their glowing referrals.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary we offer a full benefits package including medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid vacation, and more.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
While you will report to the Operations Manager, you'll respond to input from several sources -- customers, of course, but also our Service Coordinator, Project Managers, Account Executives and others. You'll join one other Network Systems Engineer, and we occasionally use contractors.
You'll provide technical support services in three main areas:
Network/systems customers, involving discovery, evaluation and configuration with regards to routing, switching, servers, desktop applications, networking and unified communications applications. The majority of your activities will relate to voice networks, and we are currently engaged in a number of significant installations.
Customers of our other service divisions. For example, you may support the Security & Life Safety team with a firewall configuration, ensuring correct IP addresses, or access to an application. Or you might help the Audio Video team troubleshoot a server issue.
Wiltec's internal systems, including network upgrades, application installations, storage solutions, troubleshooting, and more. We are an application rich company and there is always something new going on.
Your specific activities will include:
Providing expertise and supporting clients in Cisco routing, switching, and networking, as well as server platforms including Microsoft and Linux.
Planning the rollout of voice and data networks that involve complex planning, implementation and project management skills.
Providing configuration and operational support for unified communications, security, and wireless applications.
Troubleshooting networks and performing efficient resolutions to return platforms to high stability. This will include optical networks, T1, Ethernet and other networking technologies.
Partnering with sales staff and customers to assess and develop plans and designs for network and server environments to ensure stable, reliable and robust operations.
Collaborating with customers to offer suggestions for network, software and hardware purchases or upgrades.
As you would expect, you will spend a good deal of time in the field at customer sites. Our footprint includes Southeast Michigan including areas such as Ann Arbor, Detroit, Port Huron, Lansing, Jackson, and Grand Rapids, so overnight travel will be minimal but occasionally necessary.
Keys to Success
Of course your technical skills will be essential, but you also will need a professional demeanor and the communication skills and confidence (but not cockiness) to help us build long term, trust based relationships with clients. To excel in this role you will bring a passion for learning new technologies and processes. For example, we may hand you a DVR for an audio visual project and say, "figure out how to program it." Where a lot of people might respond, "that's not my job," you will accept the challenge with enthusiasm.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
